Ilone Gates, 81, of Millville died on Monday, Dec. 24, 2007, at South Jersey Healthcare Regional Medical Center in Vineland after a brief illness.

Born in Hartford, Tenn., she moved to Millville in 1947. In addition to raising her family, she had worked as a school bus aide for Musso's Bus Services, and before that, Manumuskin Transport Co. She was committed to children, her own, and those she knew while employed. All children, including her younger siblings, played a big part in her life. She attended the Methodist Church.

She is survived by her son, Michael Gates and wife Gayle of Millville; three daughters, Betty Jo Amendt and husband Robert, Carol Gates, with whom she resided, and Linda Hamlyn and husband Tom, all of Millville; eight brothers, Sherman Phillips of Millville and Horace, Roy, Lester, Earl, Sid, Glenn Phillips, and J.D. Styles, all of Tennessee; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Stanley Gates; son, Robert J. R. Gates; and a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Gates.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Christy Funeral Home, 11 W. Broad St., Millville, with the Rev. Richard Miles of Mount Pleasant Church, officiating. There will be a viewing from 10 to 11 a.m. in the funeral home before the service.

Burial will be in Center Grove Methodist Cemetery, Center Grove.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association S.J. Chapter, 1100 Lincoln Drive West, Suite 7, Marlton, NJ 08053-3431.
