| Birth: | Nov. 30, 1897 | | Death: | Dec. 16, 1954 Monroe County New York, USA | Singer. She began recording for the Pathe/Perfect labels in 1924, switching to Columbia Records in 1927. She brought her passionate personality to every recording session, and also wrote approximately one-third of the material she recorded, sometimes accompanying herself on guitar. In all, she recorded over 200 songs; her depression-era song "I've Got Five Dollars" is among her most widely known tunes. In 1930, Miss Morse was featured in three short films, "Song Service", "A Million Me's" and "The Music Racket", all of which featured her flawless voice and comedic acting skills. Due to a number of unfortunate circumstances, her career waned in the 1930's, although she did stage brief comebacks in 1938 and again in 1950. Through it all, her voice remained strong and clear. In 1946, she married Ray Farese, who assisted Lee with her final comeback attempt. By then, she and Mr. Farese were living in Rochester, New York, where she was featured on some radio programs and sang in clubs in that area. Sadly, she passed away, due to alcohol-related complications on December 16, 1954. Her recordings and her memory live on.
