My great grandfather, born is Wiesenberg, Galicia, was the eldest son of Johann Heinrich and Rosalia (Kuehnert) Mann. He, 4 brothers, his parents, 2 sisters and their families left Galicia for homesteads in the Pheasant Forks district of the North West Territories in December, 1893. Johann homesteaded on a quarter section of land adjoining his father's homestead located 2 miles south of what would become the town of Lemberg. The three storey fieldstone house built in 1910 and a large horse barn built in 1920 are still in use today. The homestead remained in the Mann family until 2007.
Johann married Elizabeth Golling on February 18, 1896. Together they raised a family of 9 sons and 6 daughters. Some of their children are buried in St. Michael's cemetery: John, Martin, James (Jacob), Rose (Wild) and Margaret (Hubenig).
Johann died of stomach cancer.
