Linda Hodel

Linda Mary Hodel passed away at home Tuesday morning, December 11, 2007, after battling cancer since 1992.

Born Linda Mary Ameen on October 12, 1942 in Utica, Onieda County, New York, Linda was the eldest of the four children of Herman Anthony Ameen and Lorena Belle (Martin) Ameen. When she was about 5 years old, the family moved to Southern California and settled in the San Fernando Valley where Linda grew to adulthood. In 1964, Linda married Samuel Richard Harris. They moved to Lancaster, California and opened a floor and window covering store. To their union was born two sons, Richard Lee and James Allen Harris. There, Linda joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints which she was an active member of the rest of her life. After Samuel passed away in a traffic accident in June of 1979, Linda continued to run the business and raise her two sons. In October of 1980, Linda married Paul Ernest Hodel and inherited two more sons, Matthew Paul and Michael Paul Hodel whom she instantly accepted into her heart. They moved to Prather outside of Fresno, California in 1982 where they were blessed with two more sons, William Joseph and Joshua Adam Hodel. After Paul transferred to Sacramento for his work, the family moved to El Dorado County in 1989, living first in the Mosquito area and then, in 1992, moving to the town of El Dorado where they lived the rest of her life.

Linda's greatest joy in life was her family. She was a stay-at-home mom who worked diligently to raise her children to be responsible, hard working adults. She will always be "Mommy Linda" to them. She was the grandmother of 7, each of which was the apple of her eye. She was an advocate for her youngest son, Joshua, who has Down's Syndrome, and worked part time for the County Office of Education in Special Education classes. She was strong in her faith and active in her church, holding many positions in the church over the years and touching the lives of many, many people. She loved cooking, working in the yard, helping others, and crafts. Her talent with crafts was especially obvious in the beautiful cross-stitching she did.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Samuel Harris, and her brother, Herman "Bud" Ameen. She is survived by her husband, Paul, who was with her at the time of her death. Her sons: Richard Harris, his wife Jennifer, and their children Kacelyn, Tyler, and Dallas. James Harris, his wife Jackie, and their children David, Stephanie, Sam, and Jacob. Matthew Hodel and Tracy. Michael Hodel, William Hodel, and Joshua Hodel. Her sisters Laura Rapp and Cynthia Galloway and several nieces and nephews.

Linda's family would like to thank all of those who were so kind and helpful to her these last couple of years. The strength and support she received was greatly appreciated and Linda often remarked on how wonderful everyone was to her and what good care you provided to her. Please know that she could feel it each time someone prayed for her. Thank You.

A Celebration of Linda's Life will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints building at 3275 Cedar Ravine in Placerville at 10:00 am on Saturday, December 15. Interment will be a private family event at Green Valley Cemetery where she will be laid to rest near a Magnolia tree she loved. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to either the Hospice program of your choice or to cancer research.
