Francis Naldo Allai, 85, of Pittsburg, Kansas, died at 11:45 p.m. Monday, December 24, 2007 at the Golden Living Center in Pittsburg.
He was born May 27, 1922 in Foxtown, Kansas to Naldo and Martha Leclercq Allai.
He attended Cockrell schools graduating in 1939. Francis attended Kansas State Teachers College for two years before moving to Detroit, MI.
He joined the United States Army Air Corp. He served in the 130th Army Airways Communication System Squadron in the China offensive. He flew 48 missions over "the hump" supplying Australian, Indian and American troops fighting the Japanese in Burma. He was honorably discharged on May 2, 1946.
He married Marilyn Nichols Salb on September 17, 1949 in Chicago, Illinois. She preceded him in death September 4, 1987.
He worked as the Branch Chief for the Bureau of Census, Personal Census Service Board for over twenty-five years retiring in 1986.
He served on many committees and civic organizations including the J L Hutchinson League, The March of Dimes, and the Boy Scouts of America.
He enjoyed gardening, ballgames, fishing and golf.
Francis is survived by his children, Nancy Howell (Barney) of Pittsburg, KS, Mark Allai (DeeDee) of Foxtown, KS, and Brian Allai also of Foxtown, KS; six grandchildren, Laurie Howell Furiness, Lisa Howell Burch, Brad Howell, Molly Allai Bloom, Todd Allai, and Brandon Allai and six great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be Dec.29, 2007, at the Brenner Mortuary. Mr. Allai has been cremated and private family burial will be in the Rosebank Cemetery near Mulberry, KS, at a later date.
