Vera Merle Barger Passed Away Jan. 23
Deary, Idaho. – Mrs. Vera Merle Barger, 51, died Sunday, January 23, 1955, at 8:45 a.m., at her farm home on Texas Ridge. She was a victim of cancer, the malady she had helped fight as a volunteer worker in the American Cancer Society fund drives at Deary. Mrs. Barger had been ill for the past year. Vera was born March 1, 1903, to Mr. and Mrs. George Parker at Arcadia, Nebraska, where she attended school and graduated, also attended the Nebraska State Normal College at Kearney and the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. She taught school for six years before her marriage to Brownie Barger, June 7, 1928, at Arcadia.
The couple lived in Nebraska until 1940 when they moved to southern Idaho. The next year they moved to California and in 1943 they came north to the Inland Empire. Since 1946 they have lived here and Mrs. Barger taught as a substitute at the Deary School. She was an Ord Quiz correspondent for many years. Mrs. Barger was a member of the Congregational Church of Arcadia for many years and transferred her membership to the United Brethren Church of Deary. She also was a member of the United Brethren Church Ladies' Aid and a past president of the Mr. Deary Parent-Teachers Association. She was active in all church and community activities. She had belonged to the Rebekah Lodge for 25 years and was a past noble grand of that organization. Vera was a friend to all who knew her.
Survivors include her husband, Brownie Barger, a daughter, Joyce and son Ronald at home. A daughter Mrs. Vivian Jolin of Coeurd'-Aline, five grand children and her mother, Mrs. Cora Parker of Arcadia, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her father and a brother, Joy.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Wednesday at Short's Chapel of Moscow. The Morning Star Rebekah Lodge will be in charge of graveside services at the Moscow cemetery.
