Birth: Jan. 1, 1881
Death: Oct. 20, 1947

John was born in Russia and died in Santa Rosa, Sonoma County, CA. His father isn't known other than George Chickenoff. It is presumed his parents stayed in Russia.

John married Anna Ivanovna Shubin (1883-1967) about 1901 in Russia. They immigrated about 1911.

The 1920 U.S. Federal census shows the family living in San Diego County, San Luis Ray. He was a farmer.

By 1930 the family lived in Fresno County, CA, Township 11; he was a fruit and grain farmer.

John and Anna had eleven known children: Anna, Nellie, Stella, George (1916-1920), Hazel, John, George, Susie, Alec (before 1924-before 1924), Alec, and Hazel.

Farmer Drops Dead

Stricken with a heart attack as he sought help to start his stalled automobile after a visit to the clinic at Sonoma County Hospital, John George Chickenoff, 66, rancher residing at 564 Barham Avenue, dropped dead late yesterday afternoon.

Chickenoff had received examination and treatment at the clinic and had gone to this car, but had been unable to start it, hospital attaches said they were told. He waled back into the chronic ward of the hospital to seek aid and was returning to the car when he suddenly collapsed and slumped to the ground.

Physicians were called, but were unable to revive the stricken man. Coroner Vernon Silvershield directed removal of the body to the Welti funeral parlors and dispatched a police car to notify Chickenoff's widow, Mrs. Ann Chickenoff, at the Barham Avenue address.

Before officers reached the Barham Avenue farm, Chickenoff's son, George, arrived at the hospital in search of this father, reporting that the family had become worried when he failed to return home. He was informed of his father's death and took charge of the dead man's car.

Chickenoff was a native of Russia and had resided in Santa Rosa for 14 years, and in California for 35 years. He was the father of Anna Shubin of San Francisco; Nellie Chickenoff, Santa Rosa; Mrs. Stella Susoeff, San Mateo; John Chickenoff, Fairfield; George Chickenoff, Santa Rosa; Susie Chickenoff, Pasadena; Alex Chickenoff, Santa Rosa, and Hazel Chickenoff, Santa Rosa. Funeral arrangements are pending at the Welti funeral parlors.
