He was highly acclaimed for his dance direction of some of the most popular musicals of the 20th Century. Born Milton Greenwald in Brooklyn, he began his career in entertainment as a ballet dancer and debuted on Broadway in the 1939 production "Filling Station". His achievements include Tony Awards for "Finian's Rainbow", "Guys and Dolls", "Can-Can", "Li'l Abner" and "Destry Rides Again", and received further nominations for "Subways Are for Sleeping", "Skyscraper", "The Rothschilds" and "The Goodbye Girl". His memorable big screen credits include "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" (1954), "Merry Andrew" (1958) and "Hello, Dolly!" (1969). He also had notable acting roles in the films "It's Always Fair Weather" (1955), "Smile" (1975) and "Movie Movie" (1978). In 1997, Kidd received an honorary Academy Award for his contributions to the art of dance in motion pictures. (bio by: C.S.)
