Frank was born in Cleveland,Ohio.The family
later moved to Wickliffe.
He enlisted in the Marines 26 April 1968,at the
Cleveland Recruiting Office.
Frank arrived in Vietnam 31 December 1968,
where he was assigned to 3rd Platoon,Echo
Company,2nd Battalion,3rd Marine Regiment,
3rd Marine Division.
Frank and 3 Marines were at a night ambush
site when they were engaged by enemy forces,
during the early morning hours.He died of
fragmentation wounds to the head and body
from a rocket propelled grenade,27 kilometers
South of Ba Long Airfield,during Operation
Dewey Canyon.
After all the Marines at the ambush site were
dead,hostile enemy forces launched a ground
assault using automatic rifle fire and grenades,
while 3rd Platoon was set up in their night
defensive position.
Frank was single and served his country for 10
months and 7 days.KIA#38,597.He had been
in Vietnam for 2 months and 4 days.
Frank was 20 years,7 months and 5 days old.
Funeral Services were held at 1pm,19 March
1969,at the Louis R Orlando Funeral,29550
Euclid,Wickliffe,OH.
Survived by his parents;Frank & Anna Blanche
Shartz Sr,his sisters;Mary Anne and Dorothy
Mae and a half-brother;Frank Dolezal all of
1720 East 291st St,Wickiffe,OH.
