Elmer Robert Stugelmeyer was born and grew up in McLaughlin. After attending school in McLaughlin he worked on the family farm and at the Cenex Station in McLaughlin for 15 years. Eventually he moved to Aberdeen where he died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007, at ManorCare Health Services in Aberdeen with his family at his side. He was 82.

He was born June 24, 1925, to Edward and Katherine (Walz) Stugelmeyer. In 1965 after working at the Cenex Station, he moved to California where he met Betty Wright. They were married on June 22, 1967. They moved back to McLaughlin and in 1969 moved to Aberdeen where he worked at various jobs. He was employed by the City of Aberdeen until his retirement in 1987.

Betty died in 1978 and Elmer continued to make his home in Aberdeen until is death.

He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Aberdeen. He enjoyed being around horses, playing the accordion and listening to polka music. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and having coffee with friends.

Elmer is survived by three children, Brent (Jade) Stugelmeyer, Evonne (Don) Marx and Evan (Danielle) Stugelmeyer, all of Aberdeen; his grandchildren, Joselyn, Dakota and Sequoia; one brother, Roland (Vivian) Stugelmeyer of Valley City, N.D.; three sisters-in-law, Viola Stugelmeyer, Mammie Stugelmeyer, both of Aberdeen, and Dorothy Stugelmeyer of Lodi, Calif.

In addition to his wife, seven brothers, one sister and his parents preceded Elmer in death.

Funeral services for Elmer were this morning, Wednesday, Dec. 19, at God Shepherd Lutheran Church in Aberdeen with Pastor Roger Noer officiating. Casketbearers were Dennis Stugelmeyer, Tatum Sandquist, Sonny Sandquist, Jeff Moss, Bryant Traxinger and Don Fischer.

Burial followed at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory of Aberdeen in charge of arrangements.
