| Birth: | May 5, 1857 Detroit Pike County Illinois, USA | | Death: | Sep. 13, 1921 Pittsfield Pike County Illinois, USA |  US Congressman. He attended Illinois College, studied law and became an attorney in Pike County in 1880. From 1886 to 1892 he was Pikes County State's Attorney, and also served in local offices in Pittsfield, including alderman and school board member. In 1898 he was elected to the US House of Representatives as a Democrat and served one term, 1899 to 1901. He did not run for reelection and returned to his law practice. Williams became the trial lawyer for Chicago's City Railway Company in 1903. In 1912 he was again elected to the US House and served two terms, 1913 to 1917. He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1916, returned to practicing law, and also lost a 1918 attempt to regain his seat. (bio by: Bill McKern)
