from the History of Round Prarie Township: Mr. Strong was the first to enlist for this county and the first to yield his life on his country's alter. At the time of his enlistment he was a teacher and law student. He attained the rank of Lieut. with Co. E. 2nd Iowa Regiment.
When a child he came with parents, John & Sarah Thompson Strong to Round Prarie Township.
Mr. Strong was first buried in the Gilmer cemetery, where a monument still stands, but was later reburied in the Glassgow Cemetery.
GAR Post 19, Fairfield County was named in his honor.
