Son of Willis Hamlin Brewer b. February 20, 1790 and Mary Spence "Pollie" Walpole b. September 16, 1802.

Twin brother: Daniel Willis

Paternal grandparents: William Brewer, Sr. b. 1741/1745 and Elizabeth Holman b. abt. 1760 in SC.

Maternal grandparents: Richard Walpole b. 1776 in Charleston, SC and Agnes Freeman b. 1780 in Virginia.

Married Rebecca Attaway on July 19, 1866.

Children of the union include John Daniel b. April 21, 1867, Julia Attaway b. April 14, 1870, Robert Edward b. May 23, 1871, Mary Lizzie b. March 3, 1873, George Willis b. April 11, 1874, Lula Jane b. April 12, 1877, Agnes Alla b. October 21, 1879, Rebecca Adelle "Della" b. May 6, 1882, and Samuel William b. November 22, 1883. John Daniel and Mary Lizzie died as infants. George Willis died at age 8.

Civil War Military Service: Private, Co. F, 12th Regiment Alabama Infantry, enlisted June 12, 1861 at Macon County, Alabama. He was captured May 12, 1864 at Spotsylvania Court House. Sam B. Brewer is listed among the Prisoners of War at Point Lookout, Maryland and was transferred on August 3, 1864 to Elmira, New York. He signed an Oath of Allegiance to the United States at Elmira, New York on June 21, 1865 and was released on that date. He gave his place of residence as Montgomery, Alabama.
