Rev. John Luckey was the very dear brother of famous REV. Samuel Luckey.
They had seven methodist preachers in the family in including the famous methodist preacher,Brother Rsv. Benjamin LUCKEY and Rev. Samuel LUCKEY D.D., Brother in Law REV. Joseph McCREERY SR., Nephew REV. Joseph McCREERY JR., His Father in Law REV. Christopher RUTHERFORD and Brother in Law Rev. Collingwood RUTHERFORD. His Nephews' dau.s Husband Rev. Frank H. HORTON.

The Luckey family was originally from Scotland in a time of religious persecution they fled to Northern Ireland.
Three brothers emigrated to this country. After a time they separated. One going west,another south and one settled near New Hamburg. Where the old home stead of Squire Luckey could still be seen in 1885. (Probably somewhere in the Rombout Patent, near Wappingers Falls and New Hamburg.)
James LUCKEY (of Londonderry, Ireland) Seems to have been the prodginator of the family.

Joseph LUCKEY Sr..the father of the three preachers was a farmer. He died at his home in Auburn, Cayuga County, NY in 1833 (probably Sennett). His wife was from Holland. The Old family record States "Lanah WAGNER (Magdalena Van WEGNER) b. July 6, 1763 m. 1787 died suddenly August 6, 1816.

John Luckey was born. March 13, 1800. probably the same place as his brother Rensselaerville, Albany County, New York. (or Poughkeepsie) He died in Rolla Phelps County Missouri 1875.
John Luckey m. Dinah (Diana) RUTHERFORD b. abt 1808 England. He donated six acres of land and a small house which re-repaired became "Luckey's Chapel" (which is now a cemetery in DOOLITTLE, Phelps County, MO.). He preached once a month and worked in the Sunday School till his health failed. Funeral services in the Methodist Episcopal church in Rolla, MO and in Sing Sing (Ossining/1901), In the Dale Cemetery in Sing Sing is a head stone suitably inscribed which marks the resting place of John Luckey. His widow then resided in Haverstraw, NY with there only surviving child Helen Eliza (wife of James McDuffie). Two children Mary and John died while Mr. Luckey was stationed in Brooklyn and their graves are in the Sands street Church yard. Two others Samuel and Emma are at rest with there father (also a Daniel?). Another Isabella is buried in New Castle, Westchester County NY. Mrs Luckey is a daughter of REV. Christopher RUTHERFORD an honored Local preacher of Sands ST.Church. For an extended account of the Rutherfords see book 111.
