Daughter of John Carr (1680-1762) and Abigail Remington Carr (1685/6-1763). They were married at Jamestown,RI on Dec 15,1704.
Older genealogies list a daughter Phebe as being born on 23 May 1716 to John and Abigail. None of these genealogies specifically indicate that it was this Phebe who married William Gardiner. The tombstone clearly indicates that the wife of William was named Mary. Online genealogies have given her name as Mary Phebe (Carr) Gardiner. While a middle name is possible, it would be highly unusual in the early 18th century. Another possibility, given the fact that the next older sibling was born in 1707, is that there were additional siblings, and that Mary and Phebe may have been two different daughters of John and Abigail.
Children: John Gardiner(Here?), Mary Gardiner Clarke, Caleb Gardiner, William Gardiner, Frances Gardiner Tabor, Catherine Gardiner Burroughs, Hannah Gardiner(Here?), Daniel Gardiner, and Joseph Gardiner.
