Connie was born July 13, 1948 in Blair, Nebraska to Albert and Bethel (Lindsay) Harper. The family moved in 1949 to Scribner, Nebraska when her parents bought the Scribner Rustler newspaper. Connie graduated from Scribner High School in 1966, and then married Bob Gillis on November 12, 1966. They traveled while Bob served in the U.S. Navy. After his service the family moved back to Scribner. During her time in Scribner, Connie worked several places including Quality Steaks in Snyder, Nebraska and Lee's Market and Dahl's Steakhouse both in Scribner. The family moved to Madison, Nebraska in 1988 and Connie worked for several years at the Madison County Courthouse. She then moved to Fremont in the mid 90's and worked at the Answering Service until she retired. She recently moved to Valley, Nebraska and had been a resident of Valhaven.
Constance R. "Connie" Gillis age 72, of Fremont, Nebraska, died Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at Arbor Care Center - Valhaven in Valley, Nebraska.
Left to cherish her memory are her children - Shelly (Craig Duncombe) Gillis of Omaha, NE and Dan (Nicole) Gillis of Gretna, NE; son-in-law - Chris Cantu of Fremont, NE; grandchildren - Andrew Gillis, Brooke Duncombe, Evan Duncombe, Tyler (Lena) Gillis, Christopher Cantu, Grant Gillis, Alex Gillis, Hali Gonzalez; great-grandchild - Adalyn Bishop; sister - Roxanne Betts of Fremont; brothers - Wendell (Sharon) Harper of Texas;
Richard (Kristin) Harper of Omaha; sister-in-law - Jean Harper of Omaha
Connie was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Patricia Cantu, and brother Terry Harper.
The memorial service will be 10:30am, Friday, July 9, 2021 at the United Church of Christ in Scribner. Pastor Larry Jirsak will officiate. A lunch will follow the service with burial to follow in Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.
