Union Civil War Officer. Born in Saxonburg, Pennsylvania, he moved to Cincinnati, Ohio. When the Civil War began, he answered President Lincoln's call for volunteers and enlisted with the 6th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, also known as the Guthrie Grays. He was mustered into Company C as a Private and was later honorably discharged as a Captain. After the war, he became a wholesale dry-goods merchant in New York and Cincinnati. He died at his residence in Price Hill near Cincinnati in 1925 two days after he turned 90.
