TRENTON VETERAN BURIED


James Mefford, 61, Next to Last Old Soldier.


RED CLOUD, Neb. - Services were held here for James Mefford, 91, Civil war veteran and long time resident of Red Cloud, who died following an illness of several years duration. His death leaves S. B. Kizer the only survivor of the Civil war in this city. Mr. Mefford enlisted at Hamilton, la., in 1864, serving for a year and half. He was born at Covington, Ky., and in 1869 (sic) he was married to Mary Henry, who died In 1922. In 1923 he married Eliza Moranville, who preceded him in death by only a few weeks. Surviving are two sons, Albert of Guide Rock and Jess of Oklahoma City, and three daughters, Elsie Shidler of Guide Rock. Mrs. Carrie Perry of Superior and Cora Drake of Pacific City, Wash.

Mifford, James M. Age 16. Residence, Wapello, Nativity Kentucky. Enlisted March 26, 1864. Mustered out May 10, 1865, Davenport, Iowa.
