Edward M. Michels
1923 - 2007

Edward M. Michels, 84, of Aurora, IL went to be with his Lord on Friday, December 7, 2007 at Provena Mercy Center in Aurora. He was born March 13, 1923 to John and Mayme (Schweistal) Michels in Aurora, IL.

He married Mary Agnes (Petit) Michels on November 10, 1943 at St. Joseph Church in Aurora. He was a life-long member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he always had time to share his talent as a carpenter. With that talent he constructed the main alter in Church which is still used today. He was an usher for many years and also a member of St. Joseph's Holy Name Society. Ed was one of the first Cursillistas in the Rockford Diocese, an experience that changed his life and the members of his family. His passion and his love for his family was only outdone by his passion and love for his Lord.

Ed was a member of the U.S. Army Air Corps during WW II where he served in the China-Burma-India Theater. He was one of the first groups of eighteen-year-olds to be drafted from Aurora.

Ed was a carpenter for over 45 years. He was the initiator of the Lehnertz Avenue Christmas Decorations which began in 1952 and is still continued today. He was a life member of the Royal Order of the Moose 400. He loved watching and talking about his beloved White Sox, and he could not have been happier when they won the World Series in 2005.

Ed is preceded in death by his parents, John and Mayme; and older brother, Richard.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; and seven children, Thomas (Carolyn Forbes), Ken (Carol Kolb), John (Terre Brocies), Carol (Rich) Morse, Joe (Sue Kramer), Mary Pat Michels-Abel, Cele (Frank) Reinert; twenty grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 11, 2007 at 9:30 AM from THE DALEIDEN MORTUARY to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 722 High Street at 10:00 AM. Fr. Jerome Leake will officiate with interment at St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Monday, December 10, 2007 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at The Daleiden Mortuary. Memorials may be directed to St. Joseph Catholic Church, P.O. Box 4395, Aurora, IL 60507.
