He was struck and killed by a truck while trying to fix a flat tire on his own vehicle. Papaw used to say the driver who hit him was a "Hinkle" - and from that day on it didn't matter how good a "Hinkle" was, Papaw couldn't like them and always said(with a scowl) "T'were a Hinkle who killed my Daddy."
