GREENVILLE, SC - Charles Jordan Waldrop, 78, widower of Lucille Cunningham Waldrop, died Friday, February 7, 2003, at his home. He was born October 1, 1924, to the late Ernest L. and Necie Lister Waldrop, in the Piedmont area of Greenville County.
A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was wounded at Luxembourg, where he earned the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Oakleaf Cluster. He retired as plant superintendent of PrintPak Industries (Band & White) in Spartanburg, and was currently employed at Good News Travels. He was former vice president of PICA (Printing Industries of Carolina Association).
Mr. Waldrop was a member of Buncombe Road Baptist Church and the Senior Men's Sunday School Class.
Surviving are a son, the Honorable Dennis Waldrop, mayor of Simpsonville, and his wife, Betty; a daughter, Deborah Childress, of Easley; grandchildren, Tommy and Kema Odom, Tracy and Aaron Byrd, Travis Odom, Mandi Waldrop and Katie Waldrop; great-grandchildren, Kristen Odom, Daniel Byrd, Noah Byrd and Kylie Waldrop; brothers, Alvin Waldrop of Rhode Island, Rufus Waldrop of Anderson and Donald Waldrop of Greenville; sisters, Ruby Waldrop of Greenville and Frances Burns of Anderson; and special friend, Mary Ellen Guest.
He was predeceased by brothers, Milford Waldrop and Truman Waldrop, and a sister, Edna Waldrop.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Buncombe Road Baptist Church, 111 Courtney Circle, Greenville, with burial at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
The family is at the home.
