STAMFORD _ Bessie H. Cumming, 90, of Stamford, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006, at Robinson Terrace Residential Care Center, Stamford. She was born Aug. 27, 1916, in Canada, to William and Harriett (Fletcher) Day. Bessie married James B. Cumming on Jan. 12, 1941, at Mamaroneck. He died June 12, 2001. She was a volunteer at the United Hospital in Port Chester for many years and also volunteered for the Red Cross and Camp Fire Girls.
Throughout her life, Bessie lived in Mamaroneck, where she was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Mamaroneck. She also lived in Saratoga Springs and Stamford. Bessie is survived by two sons, James Cumming of Saratoga Springs and Ronald Cumming of Roxbury; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Winnie Whitlock of Canada. She was predeceased by a daughter, Jean Engle, in 2002. Committal services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, in the Greenwood Union Cemetery in Rye.
