| Birth: | unknown | | Death: | unknown | The Great Peshtigo Fire started around 8:30pm on October 8th 1871. By the time it was over, nearly 1.25 million acres of forest were burned, and by some accounts close to 1200 people were burned to death. This small town in Wisconsin was destroyed at almost the exact same time that the great Chicago fire started, nearly 240 miles to the south. Some people were never found due to the massive heat generated by the fire. Some of them were buried in a mass grave in this small cemetery in Peshtigo, Wisc. All of this destruction took less then 24 hours.
