Clarion Democrat
ELDER Curtis W. - January 24, 1918 - The well known gentleman whose name stands at the head of this notice was born near Williamsburg, in Monroe Township, on January 17, 1852, and closed his eyes on these familiar scenes on January 21, 1918, the 43rd anniversary of his wedding day. Thus, he lived just 66 years and 4 days. Mr. Elder was seized with a sudden spell of sickness a few weeks ago, just about the time he was moving to his new home on Greenville Avenue, which he had recently purchased. He never recovered from that attack, but grew steadily worse, though able to go about some at times. But the end came on quietly and he peacefully slept into eternity. Mr. Elder was the son of Samuel and Nancy Frampton Elder and grew up on the homestead farm, learned how to farm and followed that occupation all of his life except about six years during which time he worked on the Marvin-Rulofson mill at the mouth of Millcreek. He was married January 21, 1875 to Sarah M. Chambers, Eau Claire, Butler County, who survives him. To these parents ten children were born, eight of whom are living, as follows: Mrs. J.L. Kirkpatrick, Waterson; Mrs. T.W. Kirkpatrick, Curllsville; Mrs. R.S. Kirkpatrick, Dempsey town; Mrs. L.P. Minich, Fagundus; Mrs. B. McKinley, Limestone, and Effa, Claire and Reid at home, Two sons preceded him in death. The bereaved family and friends have the sympathy of all. He is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. R.A. Crooks, Clarion; Mrs. Hopkins, Kansas state; Wm. P. Elder, Taft, Cal.; Mack Elder, in the western oil field; Mrs. Charles Potter, Waterson; Mrs. Mack Hindman, Jefferson county and Mrs. Charles Stewart, Kane. Mr. Elder was a member of Zion Baptist Church, Reidsburg, for many years and worshipped there regularly. His farm (which he recently sold and bought his present home in Clarion) was located near the church. The funeral was held this Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock p.m., the Rev. A.C. Locke conducting the services, and the interment was made in the Strattonville Cemetery.
