NAYDEAN MANESS BLACKBURN

Asheville - Naydean Maness Blackburn, 81, of Reynolds Mountain Boulevard, Asheville, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 26, 2007. Despite her lingering illness, she was always optimistic, able to smile and see the bright side of every situation.

Born on Sept. 21, 1925, in McClure, Va., she was the daughter of the late Ulysses S. Maness and Lura P. Maness. Her family later moved to Kings Mountain, and she then moved to Buncombe County with her husband following World War II.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, James A. Blackburn, who died May 28, 2000; daughter, Germaine B. Warren, who died March 5, 2001; and granddaughter, Dana Michelle Warren, who died Nov. 9, 1972.

Mrs. Blackburn retired from Burlington Industries in 1984, with 26 years of service. During those years, she received many certificates of appreciation and awards for perfect attendance and meritorious service. She devoted her life to her family and friends. She always loved having company in her home, and enjoyed being outside caring for her beautiful flowers.

She was the beloved mother of James Edward Blackburn, of Asheville, and Vickie Blackburn Rogers and son-in-law, Richard G. Rogers, of Leicester; grandmother of Mark Daniel Blackburn, of Asheville, and Chad Edward Blackburn, of Dallas, N.C.; three step-grandchildren, Beth, Erica and Mark Rogers; and brother, Carlos Maness, of Columbia, S.C.

The family wishes to express their thanks to the caregivers and friends at Emerald Ridge Care and Rehabilitation Center for loving Naydean. Her sweet and gentle presence will be missed by all who knew her.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral, with the Rev. Danny Little and Mr. Robert Max Blackburn officiating.

Burial will follow at Ashelawn Gardens.
