Ed joined the U.S. Army in 1949, looking to further his life and career. This took him to Korea in the eighth Army Rangers of the 25th Infantry Division. He later became part of the Military Police in the 82nd Airborne Division. After the Korean Conflict was ended, Ed was stationed in Japan as an M.P. Later he was stationed in Panama for the balance of his time.
After a few years working at the post office in Janesville, Wisconsin, the Vietnam War began, and Ed joined the Army again in August, 1964, serving in Vietnam as a military policeman until April,1970.
Altogether, Ed earned the National Defense Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with device 1960, Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal (3 awards), Expert Rifle (M-14), and two Overseas Service Bars.
After retirement, Ed became the police chief in Sharon, Wisconsin, where he met and married Dorothy Oftedahl Garner. They later moved to Lacombe, Louisiana for his second retirement. Ed Died of complications of diabetes which had been brought on by his exposure to Agent Orange in South Vietnam.

This cemetery is Located in Centreville just off Conyer Street N Extension about 1/10 mile north of East Cherokee Street. It is a small family cemetery that is well kept. 31 05 38N, 091 03 43W.
