Ephraim Clark Whitten was born Nov. 17, 1864, at Dunbar, Nebraska Territory. His family knew the struggles of the early pioneers They were at time visited, although never harmed, by Indians.
In April 1892, E.C. Whitten came to Phillipsburg, Kansas, purchased a farm seven miles north of town and a quarter-mile north of Red Top School House. In 1893 his parents also moved to Phillips County.
On Sept. 15, 1900, he and Mary Jane Phillips wer married. Mary came with her parents, brother and sisters to Phillips County in 1879. After attending school at Red Top, she became a teacher and taught school in the one room rural school for six years until her marriage.
Mr. and Mrs. E.C.Whitten were always interested in the betterment of the community. Mr. Whitten served on the Red Top School Board and held othe community offices. The family attended the Methodist Sunday School and church at the Red Top School house. Mrs. Whitten was a member of the Spring Creek Women's Christian Temperance Union and held offices in the organization.
In 1912, Ephraim and Mary Whitten and their children left the farm and moved to Phillipsburg. They continued community and church interests.
E.C.Whitteh died Sept. 21, 1946 at Phillipsburg and is buried at Fairview Cemetery. Mrs. Whitten died Apr. 26, 1954, at Phillipsburg and is also buried at Fairview.

Elva Ruth was born June 26, 1900 at Phillipsburg, where she continues to live.
Errol Levere was born June 26,1902 at Phillipsburg. He died July 13, 1915 at Phillipsburg.
