Ronald Jerry Weldy, 67, of West Jefferson, Ohio and formerly of Piqua, Ohio passed away at 2:52 pm Sunday, November 25, 2007 at Mt. Carmel West Hospital.
He was born March 27, 1940 in Piqua, Ohio to the late Harley W and Lily M (Hilleary) Weldy. He married his high school sweetheart and love of his life Janet K (Jamieson) on September 13, 1958 and she survives.
Other survivors include daughter, Kathryn L (Michael L) Studebaker of West Jefferson; and three sons, Kris A (Charlotte E) Weldy of Centerburg, Kurt T (Leigh A) Weldy of Columbus, and Kory W (Sandra K) of Orient; Nine grandchildren, Christopher J Weldy, Brandon S Weldy (Lynnette), Kaitlyn M Weldy, Mikaela D Weldy, Thadeus C Weldy, Meaghan M Weldy, DeWitt F Friend IV, Nathan M Friend and Kendall A Friend; one great grand son with a great grandchild due in May 2008; brothers, Harley W Weldy Jr of Redmon, Ca and William L Weldy of Winterhaven, Fl; and sister Janice M Weldy of Lakeland, Fl.
Mr. Weldy graduated Piqua Central High School in 1958, The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education in June 1963 and Xavier University with a Masters Degree in Education in May 1979. Upon his graduation from the Ohio State University he settled in West Jefferson where he began a 31 year career as a teacher, principle, mentor and friend. Over the years, he had the privilege of teaching many different disciplines including; Physical Education, Shop, Mechanical Drawing, General Science, Biology and Chemistry and Drivers Education to hundreds (look out for the ant funeral). He served several years as Class Advisor. He coached Football, Boys and Girls Track, Wrestling and Basketball.
While at The Ohio State University, Ron Weldy was a 2 sport letter winner in Football and Track and was a proud player for the Late and Great Woody Hayes. He instilled his love for the Mighty Buckeyes in his family as well as the idea of paying forward for the blessings in his life. He was a member of the West Jefferson United Methodist Church. He was a past President of the West Jefferson Jaycees. He served as an Advisor for the Darby Valley Order of DeMolay. He greatly enjoyed and loved his family, Masonry and volunteering in the community. He felt very privileged to help mold more than 3 decades of youth in the West Jefferson Community
Masonic memberships include; Past Master and 22 year secretary of Madison Lodge # 221 F & AM, Adoniram Chapter # 73 RAM, London Council # 41 RSM, Willis Commandery # 82, John L Owsley Chapter # 217 AMD, Past Worthy Patron of the West Jefferson Order of Eastern Star # 492, Aladdin Shrine, Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus, The Red Cross of Constantine. He was a Past District Deputy Grand Master of the 9th Masonic District, a Knight of the York Cross of Honor and an Illustrious 33° Mason of the Valley of Columbus.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 on Friday, November 30, 2007 at the West Jefferson United Methodist Church where a Masonic Funeral Service will be conducted at 7:00 pm. On Saturday, December 1, 2007 at 12:30 pm., the Weldy family will then receive visitors at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home in Piqua, Ohio with the Rev. Dale Gensler officiating the 1:30 pm. funeral service. Burial will follow at the Forrest Hill Cemetery, Piqua Ohio. Funeral arrangements are being made by Rader-McDonald Funeral Home in West Jefferson, Ohio.
