Sustained to First Council of the Seventy April 6, 1964, at age 39; sustained to First Quorum of the Seventy Oct. 1, 1976; served in Presidency of the First Quorum of the Seventy, Oct. 1, 1976, to Feb. 22, 1980; named emeritus General Authority Oct. 1, 1989; died Jan. 9, 1998, at Salt Lake City, Salt Lake Co., Utah, at age 73. Though a controversial figure due to his "imaginative" talks, he was one of the best speakers in the LDS Church, and helped many people with total kindness.
