Quote from the memories of Mary Ann Lewis Palmer, page 6.
"The following spring my dear Christian mother was killed by being thrown from a horse and having her neck broken. O, the sadness of my heart to see my dearly beloved mother lying lifeless in death: O, what a loss we then sustained. I was only thirteen years old at the time of her death---".
Also from pp. 27 & 28
"--with a dear sister, I visited my mother's grave. There were four dear friends who lay near her; but I hardly stopped until I reached the grave where my much loved mother was laid. Over fifty years have passed since she was so suddenly taken from us; but I shall never forget her counsel and Christian example. As we came near the grave we saw that her head stone was beginning to show signs of age, and we could not read all the verse that had been engraved upon it. I had never forgotten those precious words. I recited them to my dear sister. The words were:
She sleeps serene and and calmly here,
Beneath the mouldering sod;
A mother kind, a wife most dear;
A saint who loved her God.
