Ruth Wysor Aker Poole Parnell, age 88, formerly of Hillsville, Va., died Tuesday, August 8, 2006 in the Riverside Health and Rehabilitation Center in Danville, Va,
She was born on May 18, 1918, in Mercer County, W. Va., a daughter of Rush Aker and Grace Lytton Aker.
Mrs. Parnell was first married to Maston E. Poole and later to Glenn Parnell, both deceased.
She retired from Sprague Electric Company, Hillsville, Va. in 1984. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Hillsville, Va.
She was also predeceased by four brothers, Raymond, Garland, Cecil and Wesley Aker and six sisters Sarah Mae Aker, Margaret Tate, Vivian Bentley, Inez 'Toots' Surrath Cunningham and Frances Windle. Mrs. Parnell is survived by one son, Maston E. "Mickey" Poole and his wife, Charlotte, of Leesburg, Va.; one daughter, Sandra Poole Phipps and her husband, Roger, of Danville, Va.; four grandchildren, Melanie P. Harrison and her husband, Glenn of Fairfax, Va., Crystal P. Lewis and her husband, Charles, of Danville, Va., Nathan A. Poole and his wife, Melissa, of Leesburg, Va., Andrew C. Poole of Winchester, Va.; three great-grandchildren, Alex Harrison and Amber Harrison of Fairfax, Va. and Grace Lewis of Danville, Va.
Graveside funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, August 10, 2006 at Oakwood Cemetery in Pulaski, Va. with the Rev. Ty Harrison officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her daughter, Sandra Phipps, 324 Wheatley Road, Danville, Va Townes Funeral Home, 215 West Main Street, Danville, Va. is in charge of arrangements.
