The drink was devised to help UF Gator football players deal with the sweltering heat, which led to intense dehydration. Gatorade is sold in some eighty countries world wide in 50 various flavors and is a $7.5 billion a year drink product. Dr. Cade spent his whole career educating at the univeristy and generated $150 million in royalties to fund scholarships and helped to establish the University of Florida as a premier research institution.
