Pauline was born September 12, 1911, in Lawrence County, the daughter of William and Della (Simpson) Zike.

She was a homemaker and later worked at Sarkes Tarzian, Lazarus Clothing (College Mall) and Indiana University, from where she retired.

Survivors include her two sons, Robert S. Clendening, of Bloomington, and Gary D. Clendening, of Ellettsville; two daughters, Nancy Skirvin, of Bloomington and Jacqueline Bowen, of Ellettsville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Strickland Clendening and three daughters, Patricia Harper, Barbara Lugar and Vivian Masters.

Pauline was grandmother of twenty-one children; great-grandmother of thirty-two children and great-great-grandmother of ten children.

Pauline was a loving mother who demonstrated sacrificial love to all her family and friends. She exemplified motherhood of Proverbs 31. She was an extremely hard worker and always put others before herself.

Pauline was a charter member of McDoel Baptist Church in Bloomington.
