MADISON >> Charles E. Shetler, 80, of Route 20, died Friday morning, Aug. 23, 2013 at his residence with his family by his side.
Born in Whitelaw on April 29, 1933, he was a son of Norman and Ruth Barton Shetler. A resident of the Madison area, since 1985 moving from Munnsville, Chuck was educated in the Oneida Schools. He married Beverly Chapin in Munnsville Congregational Church on Sept. 18, 1954.
Prior to his retirement, Chuck was employed with the Madison County Highway Department for 35 years and later drove for Birnie Bus Company. He was a member of the Munnsville Congregation Church while he resided in Munnsville, a member of the Munnsville Fire Department, the American Legion, Munnsville Post 54, IOOF Munnsville Lodge, Nyanda Rebekah Lodge No. 179, Waukeska Encampmant No. 101, and a bingo caller for I00F. Mr. Shetler served in the United States Air Force, 21st Supply Squad from 1952-1954.
Surviving besides his wife, Beverly, are five daughters and two sons-in-law, Kathleen Pegg of Madison, Patricia and Robert Bennett of Oneida, Laura E. and David Emmons of Riceville, Tenn., Annette Nichols of Bouckville, and Charlotte Shetler of Oxford; two sons, James E. Shetler of Chittenango and Donald Shetler of Munnsville; one sister and brother-in-law, Carlene and Bruce Ward of Oneida; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by seven sisters, Esther Husband, Millicent Luke, Marguerite Shetler, Marion F. Carolla, Lillian Zike, Phyllis Natanson, and Dorothy Ludecke; and three brothers, Harold Shetler, Norman Jr. Shetler and Roger Shetler.
Funeral services will be held 6 p.m. Wednesday from the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 260 Main St., Oneida with the Rev. Neil Coe, officiating. Interment will be made in the Stockbridge Cemetery. Friends may call prior to the funeral service 4-6 p.m. Wednesday. Contributions in his memory may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 4277 Middle Road, New Hartford.
