He was attending college in Hawaii when he enlisted in the United States Army, serving as a 2nd Lieutenant of Field Artillery during World War I. After his discharge in 1919, he was a reporter for the Public Ledger in Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., 1920 to 1923. He returned to Honolulu and became president and general manager with the Honolulu Star-Bulletin, Ltd. He was appointed secretary to the Hawaii Legislative Commission in 1933 and was a member of the Territorial Senate, 1934 to 1942. In 1943, he was elected as a Republican to the Seventy-eighth Congress and to the five succeeding Congresses, serving until his death. His father Wallace Farrington was Governor of Hawaii, and US Congresswoman Mary Farrington was his wife. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
