Major League Baseball Player. He was a reserve outfielder for the Boston Red Sox from 1915 to 1917, the Detroit Tigers from 1919 to 1921, the St. Louis Browns in 1922 and the Cincinnati Reds in 1924. The 6-foot left-handed hitter played center field and batted third in Games 3 and 5 of the 1916 World Series. He hit .571 (4 for 7) with two runs batted in as the Red Sox beat Brooklyn in five games. He was traded with catcher Eddie Ainsworth and pitcher Edward "Slim" Love on January 17, 1919 to the Tigers for infielder Ossie Vitt. In 1920, he played in a career-high 116 games and batted .288 with 40 RBIs. He was sold to the Browns on December 14, 1921. His eight-year career totals were .275 with 51 doubles, 20 triples, three homers and 134 RBIs. He was a scout for the Cleveland Indians from 1950 through 1959. (bio by: Ron Coons)
