In honor of my fourth-great Grandfather, Matthew R. Allison, late Ranger, Second Pennsylvania Regiment, later first Commissioner of Centre County, former Surveyor General's Assistant of Pennsylvania, Justice of the Peace and Trustee of Bellefonte Academy. He arrived in this country from Scotland via Ireland in 1770 with three brothers and two sisters. Along with his brothers and father, Grandfather Matthew served his adopted country bravely, losing his oldest brother who was killed during the Battle of Long Island, 27 August 1776. Parents: Archibald Allison & Mary Kennedy. Wives: Sarah Mahaffey (1775-1787), Catherine Lamb (1787-1817), Sarah Bane (1817-1828).
