He came to Delavan, Kansas with his parents in 1887, and lived most of his life near there. For the last few years he resided in Herington. He was married to Eliza Blythe Feb. 10, 1907. He operated a Dray Service, and worked for the Ray Brothers Elevator and lumber yard at Delavan for many years. Later he did carpenter work in Herington until he retired.
He departed this life at the Herington Nursing Home, Feb. 24, 1964 at the age of 87 years, 4 months, and 19 days. He was preceded in death by his wife, an infant daughter, his parents, three brothers, George William, Lewis Robert, and Raymond, and two sisters, Nellie Burton, and Alice May Fisher. He is survived by two brothers, Spencer Burton, Delavan and John Burton, Salinas Calif., one sister Hattie Stice, Delavan, and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at the Puryear chapel Thursday Feb. 27 at 2 p.m. with Bro. Frank Parker officiating. The organist Mrs. A. W. Stancliffe accompanied, Mr. and Mrs. John Falen who sang, Old Rugged Cross, and In the Garden. Burial was in the Delavan cemetery.
