Mrs. Martha Ann Walker Martin, mother of M. H. Martin of this city, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H. C. Perryman at Macon, Ga., Tuesday, was buried Thursday at the old family cemetery near Turin, Ga., it was learned today.
Mrs. Martin would have observed her 99th birthday had she lived until Dec. 23rd. She was born in 1836 in Greenville, S.C., but moved to Coweto county in infancy and spent her long life there. She went to Macon, last November, to visit her daughter, Mrs. H. C. Perryman, at 2524 Second street, but because of her feeble condition remained with her daughter until her death.
Mrs. Martin was married in 1856 and her husband lived until 1896, but following his death Mrs. Martin maintained the old home near Newman for her large family of children and grandchildren.
She is survived by 11 children, 37 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
Besides Mrs. Perryman, there are two other daughters, Mrs. Alice Stevenson of Turin, and Mrs. Emma Couch of Luthersville. Her sons are Walker B. Martin and Fred Martin of Turin, S. A. Martin of Tifton, N. A. Martin of Atlanta, Will A. Martin of Hendersonville, N.C., Marvin H. Martin of Palatka, John A. Martin of Luthersville, and Rev. C. S. Martin of Kite, Ga. Two sisters, Mrs. Homer Baggett of Douglasville, and Mrs. R. S. Borden of Madison, also survive.
