Death: Mar. 12, 1887

Frazier Vandalia Provence (also known as F.V. Provence) was born in Madison County Alabama in 1839. His father is Thomas Provence (born 1793 in North Carolina) and his mother is Mary Stokes(born 1793 in Georgia)Frazier moved to Texas with his parents and at least 2 brothers Thomas Marion Provence and James A Provence between 1857 and 1859. They first lived in Titus County in 1860 census and that is where Frazier and both of his brothers lived when they joined the Confederate Army for the Civil War. Frazier and his brothers were all in the 19th Texas Infantry Company G. Around 1857/58 Frazier married Rebecca (Powell)Laird. Rebecca's first husband Turner Laird had died and Frazier was her second husband. Rebecca already had several children from her first marriage that Frazier helped raise. Frazier and Rebecca had two children together Albert M. Provence (born 1860 in Texas) and John Monroe Provence (born Oct 27, 1862 in Texas). Frazier and his family and his brother Thomas and his family all moved into the area of Wise County Texas in the early 1860's where they remained the rest of their lives. Frazier (or F.V.) and his brother Thomas are listed as some of the early settlers into Wise and Parker county Texas and were well known as Sheep Ranchers. Frazier lived in Wise county at the time of his death. There is no cemetery or funeral home records showing that Frazier is buried in this cemetery and he does not have a tombstone so it is unknown the exact location of his grave in this cemetery. However there is a newspaper article in the Wise County Messenger newspaper listing his death and saying that he was buried in the Bethel Cemetery.
