Bio thanks to THR:

Put this bio together from wikipedia and his obituary (I restored the photo of him as a Cornell rower):

Edwin R. Sweetland, age 75, a one-time football, basketball, track, and crew coach at nine colleges and universities over 20 years, died October 21, 1950 at
his home after a long illness.

Sweetland attended Union College and graduated from Cornell University with a degree in agriculture in 1899. He later took a law degree from the University of Kentucky. He played guard on the Union College football team in 1894,
then transferred to Cornell where he played tackle 1895-96, 1898 (named to the 3rd team all-American in 1898), and rowed varsity crew in 1898 and 1899.

After graduating from Cornell, Sweetland began a distinguished 20-year career as a collegiate football, crew and basketball coach, he was head football coach for
all but two of his coaching years. He coached football and other sports at the following locations:

1899, 1903 - Hamilton College (independent)
1900, 1900, 1901 - Syracuses 1st football coach (coached crew 1900-01)
1904, 1905 - Ohio State (coached track 1905)
1909 - Colgate (coached track 1907)
1909, 1910, 1912 University of Kentucky (1st UK basketball coach 1909-10, 1911-12)
1911 - Miami
1913 West Virginia
1914 Tulane (coached basketball 1914-15, and track 1915)
1915, 1916, 1917, 1919 Alfred College (independent)

His football head coach record was 100 wins, 41 losses, 10 draws; in basketball he was 15-11.

One of the highlights of his coaching career was that he coached the first intercollegiate basketball championship team in the south when he was at the University of Kentucky.

Sweetland was a member of Phi Gamma Delta, and was a member of the Sphinx Head, the honorary society for Cornell athletes.

After he had given up coaching as a career, he moved to this township, but never fully relinquished his touch with football. Occasionally, when Gloomy Gil Dobie was at the Cornell football helm, Sweetland journeyed from Dryden to give him a hand.

Thank you for coaching the greatest basketball team, the Kentucky Wildcats. May you rest in peace.
