The sudden death from apoplexy of A. G. Dawson at his home, Fourteenth and Humboldt, removed on of the best known cattlemen in the West. He was a son of John Dawson, the pioneer New Mexico ranchman whose wealth ran up to several figures through the sale of large tracts of coal land to the Colorado Fuel & Iron Company.

Early last week the Rev. John A. Davis of University Avenue discovered that the family of A. G. Dawson was living in Denver and notified them that he would call, as he had married them seventeen years ago in Iowa. He made the call last Wednesday and was given an invitation to dinner last Saturday night, Mr. Dawson being out of the city.

Mr. Dawson came back Wednesday, was seized with the sudden illness Wednesday night, and died at 3 o’clock Thursday morning. Instead of dining with his old friend, the Rev. Mr. Davis was one of the ministers called upon to tell of the virtues of the dead man at the funeral on Sunday.

The interment was in Riverside Cemetery and nearly forty relatives came from New Mexico to attend, including the aged father of Mr. Dawson.

The Dawsons have lived in Denver for about four years, coming here from Raton, N.M., where they had large land interests, and where Mr. Dawson was a stockholder in the leading bank. He owned a large ranch in Routt County and the family has been spending their summers there.

Besides a widow, Mr. Dawson leaves four children, Margaret, Leo, Geraldine, and John.
