|Death: ||Jul. 20, 1765|
Jeremiah's parents died at the hands of Abenaki Indians in the Candlemas Massacre of Jan 25, 1692 when he was but four years old. His mother Hannah (Littlefield) Moulton was killed outright. His father Joseph MOULTON, tavernkeeper and Town Constable, is believed to have been captured and died enroute to Canada.
Jeremiah may have escaped capture by hiding under a bed, or he may have been taken to Montreal to be returned after a few years for ransom payment; in either event, he made it back to York, joined the York Militia and led a "scouting expedition" in 1724 which exacted a measure of revenge on the Indians and their French supporters. Jeremiah later served as a Probate Judge in York. He and his wife Hannah (BALLARD) had seven children: Jeremiah, Daniel, Hannah, Thomas, Abigail, Dorcas and Lucy.
