Charles Frederick "Silver King" Koenig
Birth: 1867
Death: May 21, 1938

Major League Baseball Player. He was a right-handed pitcher for the Kansas City Cowboys (1886), the St. Louis Browns (1887-1889), the Chicago Pirates (1890), The Pittsburgh Pirates (1891), the New York Giants (1892-1892), the Cincinnati Reds (1893) & the Washington Senators (1896-1897). He helped the Browns to two AA pennants (1887 & 1888) & recorded the first 2 of 4 consecutive seasons in which he would win more than 30 games. His nickname came from the German translation of his name Koenig & a thatch of hair that resembled burnished silver. King is credited with being the first to use a sidearm delivery & pitched using just one motion, with no windup. (bio by: Connie Nisinger)
