Mr. Matthew John "Matt" Mattox, 21, passed away Wednesday morning, November 7, 2007, at the Satilla Regional Medical Center following a short illness.

A native of Ware County, he had lived in Pierce County all of his life. He was a member of the Beulah Baptist Church. Matt had a special love for life and quest for learning. He enjoyed music and playing his guitar and other musical instruments for his friends and family. While in school he was in the marching band where he played the trumpet. An avid reader, he won several awards in literature and also for young author. Matt enjoyed writing poetry and was a member of the gifted class in middle school and high school. He loved his dog Buddy but most of all Matt loved a good laugh and making people smile. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Tracy & Ellie Hannah Ivany Mattox and also by his maternal grandfather, Eugene Acord.

Survivors are his parents, Billy & Julie Acord Mattox of Waycross; a sister, Tracie Victoria Mattox of Waycross; his maternal grandmother and step-grandfather, Lydia & Ronnie Thrift of Waycross; his maternal great grandmother, Mattie Victoria Thomas of Blackshear; a special uncle, Christopher Thrift of Alma; a special niece, Celeste Rodriquez of Waycross; his godmother, Geraldine "Doolie" Clark of Waycross and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Funeral services for Matt will be held Friday morning, November 9, 2007, at 11:00 o'clock from the Beulah Baptist Church.

Visitation for Matt will be held Thursday evening from 6 until 8 pm at the funeral home.
