| Birth: | unknown | | Death: | 1949 |  Musician. Born in 1889, he was a pioneer Chicago jazz pianist in the 1920s. His band The Blue Five which included Louis Armstrong, accompanied Monette Moore and Laura Smith, among other blues singers. He also headed the Wonder Orchestra at the Owl Theater and his solo piano variation "Hula Lou," was a popular stage novelty. As a songwriter, he wrote "The Dirty Dozen", "Daddy Blues", "Trot Along", "Thanks for the Lobster" and played on the Louis Armstrong hit, "Everybody Loves My Baby". (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
