JAMES SC0TT MOUNTS
Born Feb. 19, 1828: Married Melvina Jones, niece of Judge "Williams Jones, March 16, 1851. She died Feb. 9, 1853. Rebecca Reed was his second wife. She was born Sept. 2, 1835, and passed away in a few months after marriage. He next married Mary Ann Akers who was born Nov. 12, 1835. Their children were Maria, Thos. Jeff, born Jan. 19, I860; Ann Eliza, Feb. 14, 1862; Joseph Grant, Sept. 18, 1864, and George S. April 20, 1868. Maria died when quite young. Ann Eliza married Alex Breeding, who deserted his wife just before the birth of Clarence, who came Sept. 2, 1885. Their oldest child, Myrtle, was born Nov. 29, 1882. Since then she has married by whom she has one child. James Scott Mounts lived over sixty years on his father's farm in Bartholomew County. After the decease of his wife Mary, he married Miss Elizabeth Hunt. She was a very kind good woman, and they have lived very happily together. They are getting old now, but are still very lively and happy. They are both good church members, and he is particularly good in managing a farm. He knows the best seed to plant and how to care for it while growing, and the best market for everything he cares to sell. His stock does well and pays him a good price, and his pigs and chickens do well. Himself and wife are excellent and hospitable entertainers, and may this world always go well with them as they look forward to the next.

Columbus Herald June 12, 1890
-------------------------------
On Saturday, June 7, W H Bevis and wife went six miles this side of Franklin, to visit James Mounts and family, who live on the Johnson County premium farm, it is an elegant country residence, beautifully situated. The farm consists of 320 acres. You can stand on the veranda and see miles around every way as the house is on a small rise. Have three churches near—two in sight, school three quarters mile near and good neighbors. The Mounts' are delighted with their change and would not move back to the "Brown edge of Bartholomew." They have lived to a good age and are surrounded with the many comforts of this life. We had a grand visit; give them a call, they enjoy seeing old friends to exchange jokes with. Mr. Mounts could not get along without the HERALD
