US Congressman. He was admitted to the bar in 1840 and commenced law practice in Somerset, Pennsylvania. He was a member of the State Senate in 1845 and 1846, appointed deputy attorney general in 1847 and served as district attorney, 1850 to 1854. In 1855, he was elected as an Opposition Party candidate to the Thirty-fourth Congress and was reelected as a Republican to the Thirty-fifth Congress, serving until 1859. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he was commissioned a Major of the 15th Regiment, United States Infantry in 1861, served in the Civil War and was discharged a Colonel in 1871. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
