Pioneer Physician and Mayor of Cleveland. Opened what was to be the most successful pharmacy in Cleveland in 1827. Mills became a public figure in 1832 when his assistance in that year's Cholera Epidemic made him a member of the city's first Board of Health. (bio by: Joyce)

He was born Joshua McFarson Mills on April 20, 1797 in Francestown Township, Hillsboro, New Hamsphire. He was the son of Jonathan Mills and Susanna Davis Mills. His father was a soldier in the War of 1812. The family moved to Stockbridge, Vermont in about 1807.

Joshua Mills had three sisters and two brothers; Mary Proctor Mills (Mrs. James Harkness), Roxanna Mills (Mrs. Horace Rust), Elizabeth 'Betsy' Mills (Mrs. John Allen), John Mills, and Dr. Jesse Carr Mills. Joshua Mills died on April 29, 1843.

His married Phebe Stafford Higby in 1826. He and his wife had two children (Harriet Mills and John Willey Mills), both of whom died of scarlet fever as children. In addition, he had two step-children, Sylvester Norton and Minerva Norton. (Bio by S. Noll)
