Larry Elmer was the forth of seven children born to Joseph John Elmer (1890-1968), an Hungarian émigré, and Elizabeth Cushnen (1891-?). Larry spent his early life in Monaca, Beaver Co., Pennsylvania.
On the 2 January 1942, Larry, like many young men during World War II, answered his nation's call to serve, enlisting at the rank of Private in the Army Air Corps in Pittsburgh. After the war ended, and Larry was discharged, he ended up in California. While working at a resort, he met Ethel Jewel "Judy" Balla (1926-1972), the daughter of Alexander Balla (1886-1950) and Julia Molnar (1885-1962). Larry and Judy married in about 1951 in California.
Soon after their marriage, Larry and Judy moved to Larry's home state of Pennsylvania, where the first (Susan) of their two children was born. By the birth of their second child (Anthony), however, they had returned to California, and were living in Simi Valley. On the 9 December 1972, Judy passed away suddenly from an aneurysm. She was buried in Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Memorial Park.
Following Judy's death, Larry remained in Simi Valley. On the 6 June 1975, he married Janice V. Fountinelle (1927-) in Los Vegas, Clark Co., Nevada. Eventually, he and Janice moved to Santa Maria, Santa Barbara Co., California, where he passed away on the 23 May 1992. He was cremated and his ashes have been kept by his second wife, Janice.
